Day 1 - Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Meet and assist by our driver cum tour guide and transfer to the hotel. After checking-in at the hotel, you will be given a complimentary tour (optional) of the city and Karen Blixen Museum. Overnight at the historic Norfolk Hotel.
Day
2 -
You flight charter in to the Chyulu Hills from Wilson airport in the morning where you will be met by Monica Campori, a Kenyan born Italian lady, your guide for the next five days. After lunch and a siesta you go for an afternoon ride to choose your horses and get a feel for them. Then you would overnight at Ol Donyo Wuas Lodge.
Day 3 - This morning is an early morning wake up and after breakfast set off from the lodge on your horses. Today's ride is easy going across the plains where where you can see Giraffe, Eland, Oryx, Warthogs, Gerenuk and perhaps Lion. You reach the "Millennium" campsite by lunchtime where you can relax and recover from your first morning ride. The "Millennium campsite" is beautifully located on top of a hill overlooking the plains. The evening can be spent driving/walking or riding for sundowners on a nearby hill. On returning from sundowners you will find hot water for showers and a campfire to sit around whilst dinner is being prepared.
Day 4 - This morning departure can be at whatever hour you wish however we suggest that 0730 in the morning would be ideal as it is in the cool of the day. You would set off towards the granite Kopjes having a picnic lunch on the way. This is again across the savannah plains where you would see zebra, wildebeest, gerenuk, lion etc as well as a variety of birds. On these plains some long canters can be had as the ground is ideal. Camp is set at the foot of the Kopjes.
Day 5 - On this morning you set off on a full days ride towards the hills themselves. This will take you to Crater Camp. The ride up is quite steep through wooded area. Here there are lava tunnels and caves to explore on foot finishing with sundowner on the lip of a forest crater. Overnight at Crater Camp which is not far from the Crater itself and at 6,000 ft it can be quite chilly at night.
Day 6 - Full day at Crater Lake Camp exploring the nearby plains. Overnight at Crater Lake Camp.
Day 7 - You would spend this morning riding up to the top of the Chyulu range that reach 7,000 ft and are the youngest volcanic range in the world. The views from the top of the hills are awe-inspiring and are dominated by the stunning backdrop of the snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro. Here you do not see that much game but there is the possibility of monkeys, Klipspringers, Eland buffalo and a great variety of indigenous trees and wild flowers and birds. The day can be spent exploring the forests and caves at the top. After picnicking you set off back down towards the lodge where you put the horses away and relax in the 'civilized' atmosphere of the lodge.
Day 8 - Fly back to Nairobi. You will be received by our driver cum tour guide and taken to the famous Carnivore Restaurant for a complimentary lunch. After lunch, depart for Lake Nakuru National Park. Arrive late afternoon. Dinner and overnight at Lion Hill Lodge.
Day 9 - After breakfast, depart for world renowned Maasai Mara Game Reserve. Arrive by lunchtime. Lunch and afternoon gamedrive follows . Dinner and overnight at Mara Simba Lodge.
Day 10 - Full day in Mara. Depart for morning gamedrive after breakfast. Arrive at the lodge in time for lunch. Afternoon gamedrive follows after lunch. A visit to Masai village is also included. You will gain valuable insights into the life of the nomadic Maasai Tribe. Dinner and overnight at Mara Simba Lodge.
Day 11 - Depart for Nairobi after breakfast and transfer to airport for flight home....End of Tour.
