Off-the-Circuit locations

Whether you want a flying safari, ballooning trips over the Mara, a biking or horseback safari, if it can be done in East Africa, we will arrange it for you. Change your itinerary, duration or activities, and we will gladly oblige by tailoring a holiday just for your needs. Here are a few of our popular options.

GOLF SAFARIS

Kenya is home to 37 golf courses, most of which were made during the British Colonial Era. Shoor Safaris offers the most beautiful, challenging and suitable courses for golfing safaris across the country. It is also possible to tailor regular safaris to include rounds of golf or even stays at purpose built golf resorts in Nairobi and at the coast.

FLYING SAFARI

A flying safari can cut journey times between safari destinations, and can be arranged for most locations. Normal road safaris can also include isolated flying trips to cut on travel times. Typical flying times range from 45 minutes to 90 minutes. Flying safaris include two gamedrives for every full day spent at a lodge. These gamedrives are carried out in the lodge's vehicle and private transport will not be available to clients, unless requested.

FISHING TOURS

Apart from the Indian Ocean, which is popular for deep sea and game fishing, Kenya has several freshwater lakes and fishing spots, such as Lake Victoria and Lake Naivasha. Enjoy the challenge of landing a big marlin bonito, dolphin sail fish, shark or yellow fin tuna in the sea. Up country lakes offer catches which include Nile Perch, Tilapia, Bass and Trout. Shoor Safaris can tailor itineraries which include classic safari locations as well as stays at these fishing spots.

CULTURAL TOURS

If you enjoy experiencing the tradition, culture, and the way of life of another people, then we can specifically tailor your safari to include such features. You may visit a Masai family living in a manyatta, or witness unique social traditions of the many different tribal cultures in the country.

Off the Circuit Locations

Kenya is home to several interesting places to visit, which do not feature in the regular safari itineraries, and therefore attract visitors with specific interests in the areas.

Some notable off-the-circuit places have been featured below.

Kericho

This is the tea growing hub of the country. The tea estates in Kericho produce some of the best tea in the world which is exported to all parts of the world.
The lush green tea estates on the rolling hills of Kericho are one of the most scenic sights in Kenya.
Only a One and a half hour drive from Nakuru, Kericho is good for a day tour, from Nakuru, which may include a round of golf at the golf club, a visit to a tea factory / estate and lunch at the historic, colonial era Tea Hotel.
Kakamega
Close to Lake Victoria, to the north, lies Kakamega forest, a
remnant of the ancient thick forests that stretched from Central to East Africa. A treasure for bird watchers, the forest is home to several rare bird species such as brown-eared woodpecker, wattle-eye, dusky tit and the blue headed bee-eater among others. The forest is also a relaxing, quiet hideaway with little or no tourists present. Overnight accommodation at a lodge in the forest can be
arranged by prior request.
MOUNT ELGON (4321m, 14,177ft)
Also in Western Kenya, this snow capped mountain lies on the border of Kenya and Uganda, with the highest peak actually lying on the Ugandan side.
On the foot of the mountain lies one of the most unspoilt, least visited national parks, mostly forested, and offering some of the best hiking and trout fishing locations in the country. There are several interesting caves which are also frequented by the forest elephants, buffalo and other wildlife in search of mineral salts.

Activity Holidays

• White Water Rafting

All inclusive rafting trips, ex-Nairobi, are offered on sections of Tana, Athi and Ewaso – Nyiro Rivers.

• Camel/ Horseback Safaris

Basically a sophisticated camping safari, anything from 4 to 7 nights, where one can ride on the camels in a convoy. Camel safaris are usually based in the central and northern part of the country. Horseback safaris require experienced riders for the 5 to 6 hour rides every day.
