In designing Ras Nungwi, great attention has been paid to detail. Natural materials have been used wherever possible, including makuti (palm-leaf) roofing over all structures, creating the feeling of freedom that is only possible in an open-air environment.

An eco-sensitive approach has ensured that the delicate balance of the land and sea flora and fauna has been preserved The proximity and variety of the surrounding reefs makes Ras Nungwi the perfect diving destination, and the hotel has an on-site fully equipped watersports centre, with a dive school professionally run to international PADI standards
